What is a Lobby Card?
A Lobby Card is a thing of beauty and a joy for
ever. Well- now then! Not many of my personal
collection of lobby cards could be called things of
beauty, but certainly there is joy for ever to be
found in contemplating them. Whether they be
photographic, artwork, or an odd mixture of both,
a look at a lobby card will bring back to your mind
the joys of the film it advertises - if you have seen
the film, of course. Or, and more likely than not, it
will make you damned glad you never wasted your
time, not to mention your hard-earned one-and-
ninepence on such obvious rubbish!
But if you are a true Movie Buff, the kind that
once haunted your local Gaumont, Odeon and
ABC in the days when there were three distinct
and rival circuits of cinemas, or more so if you were
the even truer kind of Movie Buff, the kind that
queued at your nearest Essoldo, Tolmer or Golden
Domes, then you won't wish you had seen the
worst of the films represented here- you vill have
seen them! You will have sorted them out in the
small print of your local Sydenham, Forest Hill and
Penge Gazette (ah, even the titles of bygone
newspapers had a ring to them seldom sounded
