Willow wood is uniquely pliable and less likely to split when bent, making it the premier material for basket weaving, wicker furniture, and living garden structures. Despite being a lightweight wood, it has high impact resistance. Willows grow very quickly (some species up to 10 feet per year) and can easily sprout from a single branch cutting placed in wet soil. 

Because they are among the first plants to bloom in spring, their catkins provide vital nectar and pollen for bees.
