"Gosh! I can hardly believe it, Captain! It seems
too good to be true! At last I'm actually gazing
at the famous Eighty Mile Beach that Uncle Dick
described so often in his letters !"
Ken Webster uttered the words in an eager tone
to the bronzed, grizzled sailorman beside him at
the rail of the schooner Southern Star, as they
scudded along before a fair breeze, off the wild and
lonely Western Australian const.
"Aye, that's the famous beach, lad," responded
Captain Jock" MacTavish, with a faint grin at
the keen enthusiasm of the sturdy, reddish-haired
youngster by his side."Eighty miles o' clean,
white sands. Beats yer Brightons and Blackpools,
ch?"
Ken made no reply. He continued to gaze shore
wards, in thoughtful silence. So much had hap-
pened in the last few months, that now it all
seemed almost like some fantastic dream.
