The 15th Annual symposium of the Underwater Association was held
at the British Mus eum (Natural Hístory) on the 27th and 28th
March 1981. The first day was devoted to a review of the state
of knowledge uf the sublittoral environment, under the heading,
"Und erwater Biology of the British Isles'. The eight papers
cOvering thís theme were presented by experta in the field and
w111 appear, in full, in a separate volume edited by Bob Earll
and David Erwin and publi shed by the Ox ford University Press.
Abstracts only of these papers appear in this volume.
On the second day of the symposium a varied programme of papers
Mere presented under the broad headings of biology, geology and
underwater technology.
