THE LONE HOUSE MYSTERY
by
EDGAR WALLACE
A very rich man occupying a lonely
house by the river is killed. The
only immediate clue is the impres-
sion, on the earth outside, of a nalked
footprint. In the house at the time
of the murder and locked up in a
room is his private secretary, a girl
to whom he had been making love,
although he was married. It was
impossihble that she could have locked
the door herself, for the key of the
room was found in the dead man's
pocket when he was searched.' Such
was the first entry in Superintendent
Minter's official note-book to what
was going to prove a most memor-
able case of double murder.
